Notes of Lessons: Nature Note-book Painting, Class II

[We have thought that it might be of use to our readers (in their own families) to publish from month to month during the current year, Notes of Lessons prepared by students of the House of Education for the pupils of the Practising School. We should like to say, however, that such a Lesson is never given as a tour de force, but is always an illustration or an expansion of some part of the children’s regular studies (in the Parents’ Review School), some passage in one or other of their school books.—Ed.]

Class II • Time 20 minutes

By Stéphanie Adie
The Parents’ Review, 1906, p. 495

Objects

I. To increase Janet’s interest in nature-lore and test her power of observation.

II. To increase her interest in her Nature Note-book, and to encourage her to write and paint in it.

Lesson

Step I.—Show Janet a number of flowers, asking her names and habitat.

Step II.—Ask her what other flowers have the same habitat. If she does not know, tell her.

Step III.—Let her choose one flower, and paint it in her book, without drawing it.
