The Other Side of All Doubt

The Other Side of All Doubt

A well-worn path of knowing

“… for we are on the other side of all doubt once we know Him in whom we have believed.”
— Charlotte Mason, Parents and Children, p. 135

If you’ve traveled the way of an educator for long, you know that it often leads us through periods of doubt. In our search for a remedy, we can be misled to believe that it lies in the assurance of certain outcomes or even our own perfect execution of a plan. Mason, however, invites us to consider another way. Again and again, we find her directing our focus away from certainty and, instead, toward trust in a Person. Thirteen years in, I’ve come to realize that all along, her philosophy has been gently guiding me to “know Him in whom [I] have believed.” This has made all the difference.

An Unpublished Trail Guide by Jason Fiedler

A Woman at the Window by Caspar David Friedrich

Amy Fiedler is married to Jason and mom to Sophi, Lucy, Nolan, and Ruby. She never planned to homeschool, but was so compelled by Charlotte Mason’s philosophy that it led her to bring her oldest daughter home at age six to begin a living education. Amy and Jason serve in full-time ministry in Wisconsin, where Jason has pastored Water City Church for eighteen years. She enjoys backpacking with her family and hopes to always live near the Great Lakes. More than anything, she sees raising her four children and sending them out into the world as her quiet way of pushing back against the darkness.
