The Courtyard
Down a crowded city street
You showed me the way
Between the doors of the shops
An open arch was there
It led us to a courtyard
Filled with flowers and trees
We heard the birds sing
While a man played guitar
Your glass flashed in the sunlight
As we sat at our table
But there was a limit to my delight
Because I knew none of it was real
I could not trust my senses
Especially when they told me
That you were a body —
When I knew an immortal spirit
Sat across the table from me
