Introducing the books
We will read the books in the following order:

6 | Philosophy of Education | 1923 | This book was published in the last year of Mason’s life. It is the definitive single-volume work on her theory and method of education. We are starting here because it gives us the end-to-end overview of our journey. What it provides in breadth it lacks in depth. Each subsequent volume is a deep dive into one or more specific topics. |
2 | Parents and Children | 1896 | Deep dive on parents and parent educators. |
3 | School Education | 1904 | Deep dive on the elements and methods of education. |
1 | Home Education | 1886 | Deep dive on the education of young children. This was the first book Mason published about here theory of education. She said it “contains the whole in the germ.” |
5 | Formation of Character | 1906 | Deep dive on character formation. Some of the chapters were included in the original 1886 edition of Home Education. This volume may be thought of as “Home Education Part 2.” |
4 | Ourselves | 1905 | A volume for students. Book I is for younger students and Book II is for older students. The message is timeless and valuable. Reading this volume helps us to be more effective teachers and more faithful children of God. |
