  1. I thoroughly enjoyed your talk Art on this, it was stated beautifully, and I wholeheartedly agree. We should teach specifically to our own children and their needs and not try to mimic what others are doing. Charlotte’s principles are timeless and when we focus on the relationship to learning with each individual child it makes such a difference! I have found that even through my inadequacies God fills in the gaps. When we are intentional and doing our best, he fills in the rest. God has blessed my two graduates as well, and it’s not my doing but God helping me through the process of learning to teach and to do it well. It’s so true how God uses the lowliest for his purpose so we can see His glory!

  2. Thank you for this article. I realized after listening to it that the four years I have been formally educating in whole hearted pursuit of the CM method, that I have been trying all the while to reach that “impeccable” stage, even if for better reasons. That pursuit has often left me with a sense of personal failure, disabling me from finding joy and rest in what I have been able to intentionally lay before my children.

That lack has left me feeling a missing link in our homeschool, for while I have studied Mason directly at length, I have relied too heavily on others’ application of her principles for my unique family. Your ideas have inspired me to be more confident in my intuition, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and according to CM’s methods and principles.

Lastly, the idea of special preparation for the child’s particular calling, with allowances made even for the depth of coursework, is a novel and life giving idea – one I will be pondering deeply as I already the Holy Spirit drawing some of my children to an intimate understanding of His plans for their lives.

    Thank you!

Edited to add: I was able to sit down in the weeks since this post and confidently complete all of my lesson planning for next year.

  3. I was really inspired by this presentation. I took it as an opportunity to do an intervention on my homeschool by retyping all the questions at the end and answering them to the best of my ability. It was quite an eye opener for me. Thank you for sharing this. I would encourage anyone to type these questions for themselves and answer them honestly as a way to improve their outcomes in their homeschools.
